FAQ

How is VixML the same / different from Flash ?

Flash was originally designed as a lightweight web animation platform in the days when bandwidth was the paramount concern. As a result, Flash was designed to primarily deal with vector graphics (not bitmap graphics), which are slower to render, but smaller in size and, hence, faster to download. As Flash has evolved, it has become a really powerful framework for developing rich Internet applications, but has not kept pace with the hardware graphics processing capabilities of modern mobile devices, such as the iPhone.

Unlike Flash, VixML has been developed, from the ground up, to take full advantage of the iPhone's unique input capabilities and high performance graphics processing. The VixML renderer is written in Objective-C and C++ and takes advantage of OpenGL so you have, at your fingertips, all of the graphics performance of the iPhone's hardware accelerated graphics processor. Its also been purpose-built for creating simple, highly engaging interactive experiences — VixML is not a general application development platform, so it has neither the steep learning curve nor the performance hurdles of scripting systems and application development frameworks.

With VixML, you can:

1) Create interactive experiences that respond to the unique input capabilities of the iPhone such as tapping, tilting, and blowing on the microphone.

2) Use VixML's OpenGL based renderer to animate hundreds of graphics elements without any degradation in framerate or responsiveness.

3) Create engaging experiences, like a Fortune Cookie or Snow Globe, in a couple of pages of markup that's as easy to learn and write as HTML.

Today, Flash has become a developer's tool for the web. We've designed VixML to be a designer's tool for the iPhone.

How do I make money ?

All content and apps built using VixML will be sold, marketed, and distributed as part of the Viximo App Network. All net* revenues generated from the sale of apps in the Viximo App Network will be shared equally between Viximo and the VixML Creator. (*Apple, Inc. keeps 30% of the revenues generated by all apps in the iTunes app store. Viximo and VixML Creators will share the remaining 70% of revenues equally.)

How much does it cost ?

There is no cost to use VixML. Please keep in mind, however, that all submitted content will be reviewed by Viximo before submission to the iTunes App Store. Once submitted, each app is also subject to review by Apple, Inc.
